Volcanic Plumes and Vog, Hawaii

Recent explosive activity that started in March 2008 produced increased emissions of sulfur dioxide. These emissions result in a widespread caustic volcanic fog— known as vog—that drifts as much as 200 miles up the volcanic chain.
